Re-Birth (2024)

デトロイト市破綻からの復興が始まってから10年を迎える今年、背景の異なるアーティストたちがコラボレーションをし、「復興」をテーマにした参加型のインスタレーション作品をデトロイト美術館で行われるひなまつりイベントに展示する。会場で来場者に折り紙を折ってもらい、そこにデトロイトへの願いや思い出を書いてもらう。これらの折り紙は、メッセージを書いた人、つまり来場者によってこのインスタレーション作品に結び付けられる。

 

自分じゃない誰かが書いた願いや思い出をこの作品の中で来場者の方々と共有することで、デトロイトという土地とそこに住む人々との新たなつながりを生み出したり、既存のつながりをより厚いものにするきっかけのようなものにしたい。そういう人と土地や人同士のつながりが、次の10年、そしてその先の10年も、デトロイトがエネルギーに満ちた場所にし続けてくれたら良いと願って。

This year, 10 years after the city of Detroit's rebirth from bankruptcy, artists from different backgrounds have collaborated to create a participatory installation artwork on the theme of "rebirth" and it will be exhibited at the Hinamatsuri event at the Detroit Institute of Arts. Visitors will be invited to fold origami at the venue and write their wishes and memories of Detroit on it. These origami will be tied to this installation piece by the person who wrote the message, the visitor.

 

By sharing with visitors the wishes and memories that someone has written in this installation, we sincerely believe that new connections will be created, or existing connections deepened, between Detroit as a place and the people associated with there. We hope that these connections between people and places, and between people and people will continue to make Detroit a place full of energy for the next decade and beyond.
